Dear Parents and family members,
North Country Independent Living is sponsoring a Special Education Seminar for parents and family members of children with disabilities.  The seminar will be held at North Country Independent Living in Superior. 

Date:  December 11, 2009
Time:  2:00 p.m and 6:00 p.m. This will be the same session each time.
Location:  2231 Catlin Ave., Fourth floor conference room, Hawkes Hall on the UW Superior campus.

Topics that will be covered are:

                 Special Education Law                      Special Education Rights                             

IDEA Act                 Individual Education Plans         WI Dept of Public Instruction             

Transition Planning        Questions and Concerns from Parents                                      

                                            Ombudsman Program  

Included in the seminar will be information about strategies parents and students may use to gain access to special education services that serve students best. 

The seminar will be presented by Genie Hudlund, attorney and office manager for Disability Rights Wisconsin.  The Ombudsman Program will be presented by Jenny Borgh, Family Care and IRIS Ombudsman. There will be time for questions after each presentation.  Refreshments will be provided.
